Nokia E71x Review Specs Price Apps Manual

Nokia E71x, the slimmest smartphone on the market, will be available in AT&T retail stores and online. Priced at just USD 99.99*, this much-anticipated full QWERTY smartphone arrives at a time when one in two people surveyed** say they would prefer to communicate via text message or email over phone calls.

“The trend for messaging, whether email, IM, texting or social networking, is stronger than ever – we are seeing a real shift in the way people prefer to communicate,” says David Petts, Vice President and General Manager, AT&T Account, Nokia. “The E71x is one of the most stylish and sophisticated QWERTY smartphones on the market, and it’s the ideal companion for people who enjoy easy messaging and connecting with their friends. We are thrilled to now bring this sleek smartphone to people across the United States with AT&T.”

In a recent survey conducted with 500 American adults aged 18 and above, 52 percent said they would prefer to use texting or emailing if they had to use only one communication method for two weeks. The option of only making voice calls for two weeks trailed behind at 40 percent, according to the people surveyed. The survey, commissioned by Nokia, looked at the way people use messaging and social networking on their mobile devices.

The results revealed that both texting and social networking from the mobile device are playing a part in the romantic side of life. More than one in four, or 26 percent, have made plans for seeing a special someone via social networking on their mobile, and 64 percent have made plans for a date via text messaging. Additionally, 32 percent of those surveyed have responded to a text message during a romantic dinner, and more than one in ten, or 11 percent, have actually interrupted a romantic engagement or dinner to respond to a social networking message. The same percentage of people say they have ended a romantic relationship via text, and seven percent have ended a relationship via social networking from their mobile.

Nearly three in four people, or 69 percent, said they send text messages at least once a day. What they use it for is revealing – nearly one in three, or 29 percent, say it is acceptable to tell friends/family they just got laid off via text message and one in ten would “call” in sick to work via text messaging.

In fact, actual behavior trumps intended behavior – 13 percent have called in sick to work via text. An additional 12 percent of respondents say they actually have spread news of their lay off to friends/family via texting. According to the survey, people are also using messaging and social networking to stay ahead in a tough economy. Eleven percent said they have secured a business deal via text and 6 percent have successfully used social networking to nab new business.

“Cutting-edge smartphones like the E71x are a huge hit with our customers who see their mobile phone as a hub for their digital lives,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Our customers rely on smartphones to stay connected using e-mail, text messaging, and social networks. The E71x is ideal for that.”

The thinnest QWERTY smartphone on the market, the Nokia E71x, has high-speed 3G connectivity, WiFi, and features a built-in music player and a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera to connect people to their passions -be it messaging, social networking, listening to music, taking and sharing images or even navigating to a date or job interview with AT&T Navigator.

Nokia N900 Review Specs Price Apps Manual

Nokia today marked the next phase in the evolution of Maemo software with the new Nokia N900. Taking its cues from the world of desktop computing, the open source, Linux-based Maemo software delivers a PC-like experience on a handset-sized device.

The Nokia N900 has evolved from Nokia’s previous generation of Internet Tablets and broadens the choice for technology enthusiasts who appreciate the ability to multitask and browse the internet like they would on their desktop computer.

Running on the new Maemo 5 software, the Nokia N900 empowers users to have dozens of application windows open and running simultaneously while taking full advantage of the cellular features, touch screen and QWERTY keyboard.

“With Linux software, Mozilla-based browser technology and now also with cellular connectivity, the Nokia N900 delivers a powerful mobile experience,” says Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Markets, Nokia. “The Nokia N900 shows where we are going with Maemo and we’ll continue to work with the community to push the software forward. What we have with Maemo is something that is fusing the power of the computer, the internet and the mobile phone, and it is great to see that it is evolving in exciting ways.”

Designed for computer-grade performance in a compact size, Maemo complements Nokia’s other software platforms, such as Symbian, which powers Nokia’s smartphones.

“Just as Nokia continues to expand and diversify its device portfolio, so it is deploying multiple platforms to allow it to serve different purposes and address different markets. While we have seen continued growth in Symbian as a smartphone platform, Maemo enables Nokia to deliver new mobile computing experiences based on open-source technology that has strong ties with desktop platforms,” says Jonathan Arber, Senior Research Analyst in Consumer Mobile at IDC.
More multitasking with Maemo

The Nokia N900 packs a powerful ARM Cortex-A8 processor, up to 1GB of application memory and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration. The result is PC-like multitasking, allowing many applications to run simultaneously. Switching between applications is simple, as all running content is constantly available through the dashboard. The panoramic homescreen can be fully personalized with favorite shortcuts, widgets and applications.

To make web browsing more enjoyable, the Nokia N900 features a high-resolution WVGA touch screen and fast internet connectivity with 10/2 HSPA and WLAN. Thanks to the browser powered by Mozilla technology, websites look the way they would on any computer. Online videos and interactive applications are vivid with full Adobe Flash™ 9.4 support. Maemo software updates happen automatically over the internet.

Messaging on the N900 is easy and convenient thanks to the full physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Setting up email happens with only a few touches and the Nokia Messaging service mobilizes up to 10 personal email accounts. Text message or IM exchanges with friends are shown in one view and all conversations are organized as separate windows.

The Nokia N900 has 32GB of storage, which is expandable up to 48GB via a microSD card. For photography, the Maemo software and the N900 come with a new tag cloud user interface that will help users get the most out of the 5MP camera and Carl Zeiss optics.

Nokia N97 Mini Review Specs Price Apps Manual

Following on from the success of the N-Series N97, Nokia has now released the new Nokia N97 Mini phone, a cut down version in terms of overall dimaensions and weight but not so much on the features. The Nokia N97 Mini has been explained by Nokia as being aimed at the youth and fashion market, the company believes there is a gap to fill for those that want as many features as possible but without the weight and bulk that this usually produces. The Nokia N97 Mini manages to do this perfectly with a very similar feature set to the original Nokia N97 and yet pocket friendly for those out and about.

The N97 Mini is a smaller version of its namesake. It offers a similar array of features and uses the ARM 11 434 MHz processor for its central processing capabilities. The addition of the Symbian OS v9.4 operating system simply adds to its appeal. Recently released, it is expected to cause quite a stir.

A 3.2 inch TFT touch screen is the mainstay of the handset with a pixel resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. It offers excellent colour reproduction because it is able to display 16 million colours. The phone comes with several sensors which includes proximity and accelerometer sensors.

The sensors alleviate some issues by automatically conducting some mundane tasks such as amending the aspect of images and saving battery power by switching the handset off when not in use. A full QWERTY keyboard is located behind the screen and is a useful asset.

The camera provided with the phone is a 5.0 megapixel camera that comes with a whole host of additional extras. The camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2592 x 1944 and provides excellent quality images. This is in part due to the fact that Nokia have incorporated Carl Zeiss optics into the camera. As a means of ensuring picture quality, the user can reap the benefits of auto focus and a dual LED to ensure quality of image, whilst the increasingly popular geo tagging is available as well.

The ability to record and playback video is integral to the success of many handsets in the modern era and this unit offers VGA quality and 30 frames per second recording. The inclusion of a video light is an unusual but useful addition, as is the integrated secondary camera. For those who like to edit their images and videos on the fly, the phone comes with software that offers the ability to edit the media.

Connectivity is provided by the GPRS, EDGE, Blue tooth and USB connections, with the ability to share files and synchronise with a PC high on the list of desired tasks. Internet access is provided by the HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections which offer web browsing either through its own connection or via available hot spots. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS with A-GPS function and includes the popular Nokia maps.

The MP3/MP4 player is always a popular addition to any phone. With the phone having 8 Gb of memory storage, plenty of media can be stored and downloaded. Local and national radio stations are available via the FM stereo radio. The phone comes with a suite of extras, which include a document viewer as well as a digital compass and flash lite 3.

The Nokia N97 Mini is compact in size as the name suggest. It is 113 mm x 52 mm wide and 14 mm thick. It weighs 138 grams. It is a useful addition to the Nokia range and offers a different option to the full size model. Its recent release has been eagerly anticipated and it is sure to become a firm favourite.
